A tale of wild ideas and amazing boots

• It’s sports-mad Melbourne 2004, and a sports marketer sets out to create a higher performing playing boot for professionals and amateurs, and to aid juniors’ skill development. Ironically, the marketer had become disillusioned with the lack of cutting edge innovation on offer.

  A commitment to explore new possibilities, together with relentless perseverance and inspiration from the human fingerprint, resulted in the creation of ZYGO®.

  Named after the Greek word ‘zugo’ meaning ‘pairing’, from the energy pod’s inner and outer shapes, and the dualities of ‘ball and foot’, two teams, two goals etc.

• Made public in 2005, prototypes were successfully trialled at the grassroots. The UK’s FourFourTwo magazine featured ZYGO® as one of the 10 craziest football inventions …ever!

  Backed by the storied Canterbury of New Zealand (CCC) brand in 2007, the initial promise soon dissipated with Canterbury Europe collapsing during the GFC.

  Today, ZYGO® remains wholly Australian owned, based in Melbourne, and playing its most exciting season.
